Encrusted Saxifrage (Saxifraga paniculata)
Named for the lime secretions that deckle its leathery leaves, this boreal plant occupies a harsh habitat exposed to icy seasonal storms. A threatened species, encrusted saxifrage grows along the rocky shoreline of Lake Superior.
